Tax benefits in Florida and Texas do not apply to cell phones. 

Cell Phone Tax Cell Phone taxes and fees by State

While shopping for a new cell phone, I soon realized that none of the advertised prices include “applicable fees and taxes.” Being my frugile self, I decided to figure out how much these fees and taxes would add on to my bill. Would you believe that many states are well over 20%!!! Holy smokes! No wonder they don’t mention this cost on any of their websites. 

What really struck me, is the tax rates in popular domiciles for fulltime rvers. Notably Texas and Florida. Whooaa Florida 21.62%! I-Yi-Yi! If you have chosen popular states like Montana and South Dakota you fair a little better. 

The tax rate is based on wherever your bill is mailed. So if you have parents or kids living in a friendlier state, you might consider sending your phone bill elsewhere.
