Volunteering in Paradise and Desoto Dogs

As I mentioned during a recent post regarding our two year anniversary on the road, we will spend the next three months at Ft. De Soto County Park Campground in Tierra Verde, Florida on the Gulf Coast.

Desoto Dogs Pet ServiceWhile our primary purpose is to volunteer and hopefully get the kids caught up on some school work fun, Cooper is offering dog walking services (or even cats?# if that’s possible) for his new business adventure, Desoto Dogs. Yep, he has a website and everything!

While staying at the Orlando Thousand Trails, he made several new friends. One of them happen to be a dog name Abby.  While Abby’s family went to Disney for the day, they asked Cooper to take care of Abby while they were gone. He must of done a pretty good job, because they kept asking him to come back on three other occasions! He had so much fun (not to mention getting some extra spending money), he decided to try and make a business of it! You can read his first testimonial and find more about his services at his website, Desoto Dogs (http://desotodogs.wordpress.com).

So if you happen to be camping or Rving near the St. Petersburg / Tampa area, you will not regret a visit to my favorite park in the whole Southeast- Fort De Soto County Park. The scenery reminds me of Gilligan’s Island, except in color of course. They have some of the most private campsites you will ever come across and the sandy white beach, ocean views, nature trails, and a mysterious lack of mosquitoes make it a truly special place.

Ft. De Soto Campsite 203

A word of advice. There are a percentage of walk-in sites that are not bookable online. You shouldn’t have a problem snatching one up during the week. However, if you want to get a site for the weekend, you MUST get in line at the campground office early, like really really really early. Oh, and you can’t come in on Thursday and try to reserve the site through the weekend. They don’t let you do that.  I walked down there once at 6am Friday morning to find about 50 folks in line and not all of them got a site! Think of it like trying to get tickets to a Justin Beiber concert, bring a chair and take a seat in line!

Hope to see some you there!
